11th Sept -- Editor at the River Endrick
It was a lovely day, warm and a slight breeze blowing, most of the extra water had run off conditions were not at all good for fishing .With the bright sun it was more of a day for a picnic. I set up my two handed rod with a two fly cast on 15 lb breaking strain fluorocarbon. Shrimp fly size 10 on the tail and a size 10 wickhams on the dropper After one hour my arms were tiring and my back was not to hot either, I stopped to have a sandwich and a coffee and enjoy the scenery and contemplate what the best tactics would be for these conditions . After about a half hour I decided that I would try my Trout rod, after all I had caught a nine pound rainbow so I had confidence of landing a big fish if I was lucky enough to hook one. With the lighter rod and using the same cast I was determined to give it a further try
After about two hours later as I was about to give up,then a fish broke the surface almost within casting Distance, I gave it my best shot and started to retrieve and to my amazement a bow wave started to appear behind where my fly would be my heart was in my mouth with expectations , suddenly there was a large swirl and my line tightened and the fish was on, It all happened so fast I couldn't believe it fortunate for me young Callum Massie had been watching and was able to take a few pictures and held the landing net while I brought the fish over it, it took about 10 minutes. and weighed in a 11 lb
